It concerns the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that was in the midst of the Garden of Eden. And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden and the tree of the knowledge .   Tree of Knowledge, Tree of Life. My work at Organic Torah starts with asking a question about chochma/Jewish wisdom: Must the Tree of Knowledge be separated from the Tree of Life? The Tree of Knowledge is what we have become used to in much of our Western education—it begins with breaking things apart into smallest components.

The tree of knowledge appears at Gen and Gen , and is presumably the tree mentioned at Gen , 11, 12, and In the Yahwist’s creation account, the tree of knowledge is one of two specific trees that God makes grow in the Garden of Eden.       THE TREE OF LIFE. Now let us consider the other tree, the tree of life. In one sense, the tree of life is also a tree of knowledge, but it represents a vastly different kind of knowledge. It is the knowledge of God that brings salvation and life. It is a knowledge born in intimacy with God. It declares that whilst we are created betzelem elokim- “in the image of God” (Genesis ), humankind cannot have access to both the “Tree of Life” and the “Tree of Knowledge.

In the book of Genesis, God places the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the middle of the Garden of Eden, where the tree of life stands as a symbol of God’s life-giving presence and the fullness of eternal life available in God. Eating of the Tree of Life means you will inherit life forever (Genesis ).

Eating of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil means death FOREVER. There’s no intermediary state. Physical life is now and in the future. Life forever is eternal life. The alternative is. And why was the Tree of Life in the garden at all. I was trying to understand why in a garden where food was abundant the two trees of greatest importance to their well-being were there for them, and no warning was given to them about the Devil and his lies.

Yet they only ate from the Tree of Knowledge. It would seem they were not even. In the Book of Genesis, chapters two and three, the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil was a tree in the middle of the Garden of Eden, along with the Tree of Life.

God Told Adam and Eve) to never eat from this Eve and Adam, ate the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, they discovered that they were naked, and were banished from the garden and forced to survive through farming.

Yesterday we discussed the first out of the two special trees that were planted in the Garden of Eden: the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The first tree is ‘the tree of life’ which appears in the original Hebrew as ‘Etz Ha-Cha’yim’ {עץ החיים} and today we will talk [ ].
